We present a generic framework for enhanced active multi-sensing. We propose a coopetitive interaction approach, which combines the salient features of cooperation and competition with an aim to optimize the cooperation among sensors to achieve best results at the system level rather than redundantly implementing cooperation at each stage. We also employ model predictive control based forward state estimation method for counter-acting various delays faced in multi-sensor environments. The results obtained for two different visual surveillance adaptations with different number of cameras and different surveillance goals provide clear evidence for the improvements created by adoption of the proposed enhancements.

A News video can be modeled using the stratification approach by identifying, among other entities, human faces appearing in the video stream. To facilitate this, we need to develop techniques to detect and track hu- man faces in video. This paper presents a frontal face detection method that uses the gradient energy rep- resentation extracted directly from the MPEG video. The gradient energy representation permits pertinent Facial features of high contrast, such as the eyes, nose And mouth, to be highlighted.

In this paper, we propose a new method of temporal summarization of digital video. First, we address the problem of extracting a fixed number of representative frames to summarize a given digital video. To solve it, we have devised an algorithm called content-based adaptive clustering (CBAC). In our algorithm, shot boundary detection is not needed.

Due to the significant increase in various security threats, safety has become a primary concern for our society. As a result, most of the public places such as airports, train stations, banks, shopping malls, subways and streets are nowadays equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia surveillance systems. These systems are meant to process sensory data to automatically detect suspicious or unusual behavior of people and alert security personnel so that preventive actions can be taken. Although such surveillance infrastructure has proved to be very useful from a security perspective; there has been apprehension among people in regard to their privacy safeguards. Citizens have increasingly begun to object to being watched electronically.
